Whispers are seeping from the coveted seats of the front rows of the New York Fashion Week shows taking place this week, February 10th - 17th. It seems chéries that the red dress is back.
Unfortunately as an Irish cailín, dusted with freckles and constantly flushed cheeks I tend to stick with the old faithful, burgundy. This however doesn't prevent me from coveting the immaculate, porcelain skin of most models and their ability to pull off some of the most shocking scarlets that my favourite designers can come up with.
Above we have three of my favourite red dresses from fashion titan Chanel. The first is from Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Cruise Collection in 2010. The show was set in one of the most beautiful locations I have ever seen, almost as beautiful as the pieces themselves, twilight on a beach in Venice.
The next is one of Chanel's well known pieces, the stunning Keira Knightley wore this is a recent Chanel perfume ad, As beautiful as the material and cut is, this shade combined with her skin tone and dark hair is immaculate.
It was actually the shape of this dress that caught my eye first, but then I noticed the combination of this gorgeous scarlet with the black detail. Experimenting just enough to stand out however still keeping that classic look that only Chanel can pull off.
Whilst pondering over pieces from the old favourite, Topshop, this image appeared in my head. In one of the many books written on this style icon, one of my favourites includes photos of Kate Moss posing in the window of Topshop in this stunningly elegant dress, simple yet striking and perfect for such an occasion.

These four pieces are from various Alexander McQueen collections, if anyone was going to do this colour justice it was him. Each piece is luxurious, strikingly beautiful and innovative. He has managed to use the colour in so many different ways, all ridiculously beautiful. The two pieces below are by my favourite designer, Vivienne Westwood, worn by two of my favourite celebrities. Both women ooze class and timeless beauty in my opinion. The first, Dita Von Teese, portrays how the colour can be worn by someone deathly pale and look stunning, she achieves a vampish, burlesque effect. The second, actress Marion Cotillard, has the radiant, sun kissed skin of the Mediterranean that women of the world covet.
So to end the piece with a vomit inducing cliché chéries, time to paint the town red!
